Beauty boxes are everywhere right now and I’m not gonna lie, I’m constantly tempted by basically each and every one of them. So it should come as no surprise that I’ve jumped on the Glossybox bandwagon…
I’ve been toying with subscribing to them for a while and it was their branding that swayed me in the end. I love the pink. I love the black. I can already see the boxes stacking up perfectly in my bedroom… Sold.
One thing I wasn’t expecting, was a complimentary starter kit to go along with my first month’s subscription, which immediately gave them plenty of brownie points over my usual Birchbox sub.
Designed to give you everything you need to begin your journey with Glossybox, the starter kit was a major hit for me. I was immediately surprised by the amount of FULL SIZE products. This gal loves full size. Ladival’s Sun Protection Spray (SPF 15) immediately caught my eye as I’ve heard its great for sensitive, eczema prone skin, which sadly describes mine perfectly. With an RRP of £19.99 this is a great addition to the box and I’ll be using it basically every day until the sun leaves my ghost skin alone.
The Konjac Sponge from Spa to You, RRP £6.99 seriously creeped me out at first, as when you open it, its moist!? Once you’ve got past that however, it does leave your skin feeling amazing. Made from natural Konjac fibres (which is apparently a root vegetable, Google it) you simply soak the sponge in warm water and massage your skin in circular motions.
The one product in the kit I wasn’t too fussed by was the Lip & Cheek Tint from Emite Make Up, RRP £12.50. I’m not the biggest fan of tints in general, so I was probably thinking negatively from the get-go, but I can just never get good coverage or longevity from one – this product included.
However, this was made up for by the last two products, which included a full size sample from Nails Inc, RRP £11.00 and box of Hairon’s Zero Crease Hair Ties, RRP £3.99. I love a khaki hue on the nails, so was delighted with the Battersea Park shade and as you’ll see from my previous invisibobble post, I’m also living for traceless hair rings right now – love!
Over in July’s box there was a full sized Hair Minimise Antiperspirant from Soft & Gentle, RRP £2.99, which contains a hair growth minimizer called Keliosoft (another one to Google) which is apparently a natural plant molecule, which reduces the protein needed for hair growth. I’m not completely sold on this idea and haven’t seen any real sign of it doing what it says it does… but it works as a nice deodorant.
There’s also a Nourishing Night Creme from Utan and Tone, RRP £12.50, which doubles up as a moisturizing night cream and supplier of a subtle gradual tan – perfect for holding on to the summer.
Add in an F20 Flat Brush from Blank Canvas, RRP £11.95, which is ideal for applying blush, bronzer or powder and a water, sweat and humidity proof mascara – aka Emotion Allowed Mascara from Icona Milano, RRP £13.04, and you really can’t go wrong.
Last but not least, is the Hairon De-Tangle Brush, RRP £6.99, which is not only an adorable colour but perfect for brushing knotted, wet, hair without causing any unnecessary damage. Be sure to take yours to the beach or the pool – you won’t regret it.
